Management Team


William D. Keogh, President & CEO
Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) of the Company, has 25 years experience working within high-growth competitive industries in national and international business markets. He has operations and marketing experience in financial and service businesses. Mr. Keogh has 15 years experience in golf course acquisitions, marketing and operations. He has an additional 10 years experience in the real estate industry having been active in finance, marketing and acquisitions. He was previously Executive Vice-President of Marketing and Corporate Development for Heritage Golf Group and Vice-President of Marketing and Corporate Development for Cobblestone Golf Group. As a member of the senior management teams at Cobblestone and Heritage, Mr. Keogh was directly involved in the management of all aspects of corporate strategy, staffing, budgeting, capital improvement projects and marketing for new and existing projects. Prior to joining Cobblestone in 1996, Mr. Keogh was President of Island Pacific Golf Services from 1993 to 1996 and specialized in the acquisition of golf properties. He was a founding partner of Trinity Pacific Real Estate Services from 1988 to 1992, focusing on the purchase, sale and financing of institutional real estate projects. Before founding Trinity Pacific, Mr. Keogh was Director of Investments for the Faulkner Company from 1984 to 1988 and a member of the Institutional Real Estate Group at Merrill Lynch from 1981 to 1983. Mr. Keogh, who was the Hawaii State Amateur Champion in 1993, graduated from the University of Southern California in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
James W. Dierker, Vice President & CFO
As Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) of BrightStar Golf, Dierker brings over 20 years of financial management experience to the organization. Before joining BrightStar Golf, Dierker served as Executive Vice President & CFO of USFilter Corporation, a global provider of water and wastewater systems with over $5 billion in annual revenues and more than 30,000 employees worldwide. During his 10-year career with USFilter, the company completed over 250 acquisitions and raised more than $2 billion through public equity and debt offerings. Prior to his appointment as CFO of USFilter, Dierker held the positions of Executive Vice President of Finance, Corporate Controller and Treasurer. Dierker began his career in finance with KPMG Peat Marwick, where he worked with a variety of public companies in the manufacturing, construction and real estate industries. Dierker is a CPA, and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Business from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in 1985.
Robert K. Casey, Vice President
He brings to BrightStar Golf extensive experience in major real property acquisitions, dispositions and development. Before joining BrightStar Golf, Bob handled acquisitions and development for KB Home Coastal’s Riverside Division, where as a Land Acquisitions Manager he was responsible for locating, structuring, negotiating, and conducting financial analyses for potential residential development acquisitions and related market analyses throughout Riverside County. He ultimately acted as Project Manager for a 450 lot, master planned community in Riverside County, California, where his planning and development responsibilities spanned all facets of the residential development process. Bob’s background in real estate is anchored by his experience as a real estate and business attorney in both private practice and for a nationwide real estate investment trust. Bob is experienced in structuring, negotiating and closing major real estate acquisitions and dispositions (averaging $20,000,000) for a variety of commercial, industrial and retail properties, including golf courses, apartment buildings, raw land, and shopping centers. Bob’s real estate practice has also included associated matters involving corporate entity formations, finance, leasing, title, due diligence and litigation. Prior to his career in real estate, Bob served in the United States Marine Corps as an active duty helicopter pilot and operations planner during contingency operations in Somalia, Africa (Operation Continue Hope) and, as an activated Reservist, one of the combat operations briefing officers for the Commander of the Coalition Land Forces in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Bob holds a Juris Doctorate in Law from the University of Pittsburgh, a Masters Degree in Business from Webster University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Arizona.
Michael J. Cervenak, Jr, Vice President
An expert manager and investment veteran, brings extensive knowledge and experience in the fields of financial and market analysis to his current position of Vice President for BrightStar Golf. With strong backgrounds in mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, as well as complex strategic planning, market analysis and long-term budgeting, Cervenak has consistently proven his worth by producing results. As an Executive Director of American Golf Corporation, he was integral in the purchase and sale of over 100 properties, spearheaded the development, implementation and integration of weather and supply utilities into golf course operational and financial analyses, and supervised the corporate budgeting team in planning and facilitating the annual process for 300 golf courses generating approximately $800 million in annual revenues. He also underwrote over 200 properties and was General Manager of Franklin Canyon Golf Course, where he oversaw 60 employees and increased annual profitability by more than 100% from 1995 to 1997. Prior to entering the golf industry, Cervenak spent eleven years in aerospace and defense as an engineer for TRW, where he excelled in software development, systems analysis and operations on classified, highly complex projects. Nearly five of these years were in the Outback of Australia. His educational background is as impressive as his professional: he holds an MBA in General Management from UCLA, an MS in Aerospace Engineering from USC and a BS in Aerospace Engineering from Notre Dame.
Brian R. Donahue, Vice President
With over twenty years worth of experience in the golf industry, and is a veteran in the areas of acquisitions and revenue management. As a Vice President for BrightStar Golf Group, Donahue provides in-depth analysis for potential golf course and country club acquisitions, and handles the complex details that go with the property positioning, operational strategies and marketing in this process. Donahue has also served as Vice President of Revenue Management and Operations for Arnold Palmer Golf Management, where he was accountable for supporting operations and developing the revenue strategies of portfolios 25 golf properties. Donahue’s business savvy and creativity also enabled him to reorganize the sales and marketing support structure by decentralizing marketing development, introducing new methodology and enhancing brand control. Donahue also served as the National Sales Director for Cobblestone Golf Group, where he was accountable for revenue generation and management of the membership and group sales organizations for 43 private, public and resort golf properties. Donahue’s experience also includes roles working as the Western Regional Sales and Marketing Director and National Director of Sales Training for American Golf Country Clubs. A former Evans Scholar, he is a graduate and former golf team member of Michigan State University.
Kim Kochsiek, Vice President
A veteran of the golf course real estate world. Kochsiek honed his expertise over the years by working in both the golf course real estate and hotel industries. As Vice President of Golf Course Real Estate Finance for CitiCapital Commercial Corporation, Kocksiek completed over $70 Million in construction and permanent loans in his first two years. Kochsiek has also served as a business consultant to such companies as Toro, Marriot Golf, Hawthorn Suites Golf Resorts, and Links O’Tryon. As Vice President of Golf Course Acquisitions for Golf Enterprises, Inc, Kochsiek was highly involved in acquisition efforts of the third-largest golf course operator in the world. He was also responsible for contract negotiations, post closing matters and was a member of the leadership team during property takeovers. Kochsiek’s experience began in the hotel and entertainment industries, where he served as a financial consultant for Shearson Lehman Hutton/American Express and as Vice President of Financial Administration (Hotel Division) for U.S. Hotel Properties. In both of these roles, Kochsiek directed corporate investments, refinanced debts, and built his financial knowledge base
